Growing up, the one beauty tip that both my mother and grandmother passed down to me was to wear sunscreen. I’m not just talking about a little dollop before heading to the beach. I’m talking about a good lathering of sunscreen every. Single. Day. So of course I’ve taken their advice to heart, considering that they both seem to defy the aging process.
During the months of winter, however, just applying sunscreen doesn’t seem to cut it for me since my skin tends to get very dry in the cold weather. I also have extremely sensitive skin, so I usually avoid trying a bunch of different moisturizers and face masks due to some PTSD from past skincare experiences (let’s just say full body rashes aren’t a good time).
When Christmas rolled around last year, my sister handed a small wrapped box over to me and inside was what would become the solution to all my sun protection, dry and sensitive skin skincare needs: Supergoop’s Superscreen Daily Moisturizer. Beyond the product’s aesthetically pleasing packaging, the moisturizer seemed to check every box on any skincare guru’s list. Not only does this product act as a lightweight and hydrating moisturizer, it also protects against UVA rays that cause skin to age, UVB rays that tend to burn the skin, pollution, blue light, infrared radiation and more. (Don’t believe me: check out this lab report posted to their site where things get all scientific).
Once New Year’s passed and I had run out of my favorite sunscreen that I purchased in Italy one summer (R.I.P.), I decided to finally put the Superscreen to the test. My typical routine includes rising my face with cold water and gently patting it dry, then applying sunscreen on my face before putting on any makeup. I realized very quickly that although the Superscreen is extremely lightweight, a little goes a long way. I’ve been using this product for over two months now and it looks as if I haven’t even made a dent in the container. After my first application of the moisturizer, my skin felt hydrated immediately and it gave me a vibrant glow. After about a week and a half of daily use, I was ecstatic to see that my skin didn’t have a bad reaction to the product (no rashes over here!). Every time I apply the Superscreen, it leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and makes me look as if I’ve actually gotten a good eight hours of shut eye.
As for sun protection, it’s hard to tell if it’s made a difference for my skin in these dreary, overcast winter days. But once summer comes around, I’ll be sure to keep this moisturizer in my daily skincare routine! I guess mom and grandma must have been onto something with that “every single day” advice.
