What’s In My Bag: Summer Edition

By Joan Lee

It’s that time of year where you throw in all your belongings, including your beauty bits and pieces, in your oversized tote bag for the summer! I love changing up my totes between the Louis Vuitton Neverfull , the Longchamp Neo Pliage and my Madewell Transport, depending on what suits me for the day, whether it’s running errands, going to dinner or heading to Sunday service. If I am feeling a smaller crossbody bag, I am currently rotating between my Proenza Schouler PS11 Tiny or my beloved Celine Nano. Although I enjoy interchanging between different bags, there are a number of items that I always keep in them during this season.

Whats in my bag

Eucerin Aquaphor is my lifesaver when my lips are beyond dry and cracked. I used to live in Florida for graduate school and my skin, particularly my lips, would get so dry from the sun. Because of this, I resorted to aquaphor every single day and it has been so nourishing for my lips. I also use it on my dry patches, such as my elbows, hands and ankles.

Another fairly recent go-to for the lips is the Glossier Coconut Balm Dotcom. On the days when my lips are not dehydrated and peeling, I use balm dotcom for a quick moisturizing touch up throughout the day. I am actually not a coconut fan but this lip balm smells faintly of coconut, which is actually very pleasant!

Summer time means the heat can sometimes get my body to deplete its perfume scent fairly quickly. For this reason, I like to carry sample perfumes, smaller deluxe sized perfumes or rollerball perfumes in my bag! I actually have a variety of scents and do not always commit to one fragrance at a time. Currently, in my bag, I rotate between the Gourmand Acai Bae perfume from Urban Outfitters, the Gucci Bamboo rollerball and the Prada Candy sample perfume. I love switching up scents so I don’t get tired of the same fragrance!

Facial mists/sprays are my current favorite right now in this heat. Not only does it feel nice and cool on my face but the sprits also help my dry and dull skin. Hydrating mists really save my dry skin throughout the day so I am consistently carrying them in my bag. I am currently rotating between the Mario Badescu Aloe Facial Spray, Le Dew Aloe Facial Refresher Mist, and the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist.

I love using the Mario Badescu for my face AND my hair; the directions on the bottle allow you to freshen your hair with a few sprays!

Although my hands don’t always get dry, I love carrying hand lotion in my bag. Often times, people always ask if I have hand lotion so that’s a big part of why I carry it with me.

Currently carrying around Gourmand’s The Matcha from Urban Outfitters. Initially, the hand lotion seemed to leave a slick and semi greasy feel but that actually dries into the hands really quickly, making the hands very moisturized. Have you tried their Matcha scent, whether it’s the lotion, perfume, or the lip balm? It smells so delicious!

I’ve been really liking balmy lipsticks because I can’t seem commit to a bold color or lip stain that’ll be my look for the whole day. I love the creamy, balmy textures that will give a light tint to my lips without staining it or committing to reapplication.

Currently, I have the L’oreal Colour Rich Shine Lipstick in Polished Tango and Sparkling Rose. I also have the Pixi Beauty Multibalm in Watermelon Veil, which is great for both the lips and the cheeks! I love a good pink shade for the summer time since my skin has an olive tint to it.
