What’s New On My Top Shelf

By Jaclyn Gruenbaum

My earliest beauty memory is sitting in my mom’s bathroom watching her separate her eyelashes with a little pin after sweeping on layers of the Maybelline Great Lash – iconic, however both of our beauty routines have definitely evolved since the early 90’s. In fact, my routine has evolved even in the last couple of months as I’ve been trying out new products. Below are new products I’ve recently incorporated into my top shelf, alongside mini reviews:

Skincare

Eve Lom Cleanser: Disclaimer: this is an ungodly expensive face wash and I am lucky enough to have received it for free. This cleanser is the epitome of a pamper product – using it is such a luxurious and sensorial experience and my face feels so soft afterwards. I love using it a few nights per week as a special routine. Spending $80 on cleanser is beyond unnecessary, but if you’re looking for something to really splurge on, I would recommend!

Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate: I bought this product because Vitamin C is an integral ingredient in my skincare routine; I had gone through a few bottles of the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum and decided to try something new. The Kiehl’s concentrate has a thicker consistency that feels warm and velvety upon application which I like, but the jury is out on whether I have seen any results with this.

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution: As someone with hyperpigmentation, I have tried a million products that claim they will even out my skin tone. I’ve been using the Kiehl’s Solution for about 3 months now and my pigmentation is noticeably lighter. I’m almost out of my first bottle and will definitely purchase another.

Differin Acne Treatment Gel: Game over. This stuff is incredible. I’ve never had bad acne but once in a blue moon I will get a painful cystic spot and a drop of this stuff clears it up in one night. It’s pure magic and absurdly affordable. Everyone should have a tube of this on their top shelf immediately.

Makeup

Lancome Foundation Stick: I’ve never been big on stick foundations, but that all changed once I tried this one by Lancome. With 30 shades available there’s pretty much something for everyone. The formula is unbelievably creamy; just a couple of swipes with a blending brush and my skin looks flawless. Best of all it’s travel friendly. Keep it at your boyfriend’s house, in your purse, wherever. Instant holy grail.

Hair

Verb Ghost Prep: I’ve used Verb’s Ghost Shampoo and Conditioner for a while and recently added Ghost Prep into my routine to protect my hair from heat styling. It doesn’t make my hair greasy at all and makes my hair noticeably softer. You only need a small dollop to do the trick, meaning the tube will last months – a total steal at under $20!
